Designing, organization, direction (with Prof. Vita Fortunati)
of the First Summer School "Bologna, a City at the Crossroads
of Italy and Europe". This Summer School was designed and
organized under the patronage of the partnership in force between
the University of Bologna and York University, Toronto. In particular,
it involved professors in the Humanities (Italian Studies, Modern
Languages and Literatures, Visual Arts), as well as in the Sciences
(Physics, Medicine) who offered to the Canadian students both
lectures and field-trips for a three-week period. The Summer School
was structured as an intensive course. It was addressed to Canadian
students interested in Italian language and culture. In Bologna,
classes were held in Italian, the focus being the city of Bologna
presented as an historical place of study, culture and civilization,
as a real crossroads between Italy and Europe. Classes were enriched
by guided tours to Museums and historical and artistic places
in Bologna and in Emilia Romagna. The project 'Summer School-
Bologna, A City at the Crossroads of Italy and Europe' is now
part of the activities organised under the patronage of the partnership
in force between the two Universities and will be offered regularly,
every year or every two years. |

National
and International Projects/Activities |
a)
"European Thematic Network on Comparative Studies (Cotepra)".
This was a three-year project (1998/99; 1999/2000; 2000/2001)
sponsored by the European Community, grouping several European
Universities and Co-ordinated by the University of Bologna. The
aims of this project was to create and implement teaching modules
(both undergraduate and graduate levels) with which the various
national schools and university systems can experiment autonomously
and in collaboration with each other, in order to:
1) study the various literary and cultural traditions on a large,
international and comparative basis, with a special attention
to the confrontation between literary, linguistic and cultural
traditions and to the specific and often ignored contribution
of the so-called "minor" literatures and cultures;
2) develop a theory of general and comparative literature capable
to give new strength and sustenance to the programs of literary
education that will be developed;
3) create a European (and also extra-European) program of literary
education, in an effort to substitute the narrow nation-centred
programs now in use (as well as textbooks, syllabi, canons, etc.)
with new, larger and more internationally oriented programs. Experiments.
The project consisted of eight different sub-projects. In particular
I served in :
- Sub-Project 1 (Co-ordinated by Prof. Vita Fortunati, University
of Bologna): "Theory, praxis, methodology of research in
comparative literature. Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate
programs of comparative literature in the European university".
This sub-project aimed at designing new teaching modules to be
taught in different European Universities simultaneously (undergraduate
level). I designed a course on "Literature and (mass) media
in Europe and North America: Mutual 'interference' and cultural
implications (1880-1990)"; I co-operated in developing and
teaching of the Experimental European Teaching Module on "European
Modernism" (involving the Universities of: Bologna, Italy;
Naples, Italy; Lublin, Poland);
- Subproject 7 (Co-ordinated by Prof. Susan Bassnett, University
of Warwick, UK): "Theory and praxis of literary translation".
This sub-project aims at studying the impact of translation studies
as a cultural phenomenon. I served on the project "Translating
Ford Madox Ford's Parade's End: a trans-national project".
- Cotepra Steering Committee and co-operated to the general management.
This role involved the management of the relations with the European
Commission offices and commissions; the participation to EU regular
briefing related to European Thematic Network Projects and education;
the writing of reports, renewals and relevant budgets; the establishment
of links with North American and Canadian Institutions to work
out new sub-projects and exchanges.
b) Designing and development of ACUME - Cultural memory in European
Countries: An Interdisciplinary Approach. (Three-year European
Thematic Network). Starting period: 1 October 2002. Assistant
to the General Co-ordinator.
c)
Ford Madox Ford Society - Scientific Board.
d)
Editorial board of the on-line review 'Griselda On-Line'. Referent
for the literary section dedicated to European and Extra-European
Literatures. |
